A tiebreak turns the match
Jessica Pegula won the opening set in Wuhan's second round, but Jelena Ostapenko saved three match points in the second-set tiebreak. The Latvian completed a 2-6, 7-6(7), 6-3 comeback on October 14, with the WTA reporting a match time of two hours and 23 minutes.
Returning after a break
A WTA preview explained that Pegula had rested after her US Open semifinal run and missed Singapore and Beijing. She described herself as healthy again before returning in Wuhan. The match therefore offered a first look at her renewed tournament rhythm after that pause.
Editor's view
Three missed opportunities are memorable, but a useful review must cover more than three points. Execution while ahead and responses in the deciding set both matter. The defeat alone does not establish a new physical problem or determine the quality of her next performance.
